One morning, I was driving to the office and saw a young woman with her window down, listening to music at full blast. But she wasn’t singing along, mouthing the words, or doing a little “car dance” to the beat. She looked miserable. I thought, “What a terrible way to start the day…dreading life before work even begins.” I remembered jobs I’d had where the work felt never-ending, and sometimes the people I worked with weren’t exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer. But we always managed to get by, working harmoniously (if miserably), and covering for one another.
This also reminded me of one of my favorite movies, Joe vs. The Volcano (with Tom Hanks), where the monotony of the daily grind is exaggerated to hilarious effect. This song is for all the employees out there stuck in the grind with no end in sight.
