This is a song about someone who is very attracted to another person who has sadly just come out of a relationship. They were in a relationship with someone else who didn’t treat them with the same reverence as this new person would have. So they wish THEY were the person in the previous relationship to not only hopefully win the heart of the person, but also to make sure they knew they were worthy and deserving of being treated differently. In the end it comes down to bad timing.
