What a blessing it is to have such an anchor in Christ! His love is on a level that I believe we, as humans, struggle to fully comprehend. While many people seek substitutes to fill that void, they ultimately find themselves in the same place they’ve always been.
At one point in my life, I sold Kirby vacuum cleaners door-to-door, and we had a quirky gimmick to get into homes for demonstrations. Each morning, we would pre-purchase 2-liter bottles of soda to offer homeowners in exchange for the chance to show off our product—“no commitments whatsoever.”
One particularly sweltering summer day, I found myself in a non-air-conditioned van, sweating in my long dress pants and tie. Thirsty and desperate, I opened one of my “props” and guzzled down a huge gulp of hot cola. It felt refreshing for about three seconds, but then I was even thirstier than before! Why? Because my body needed WATER—only pure water would suffice. Sodas, seltzers, or anything else wouldn’t do; I needed H2O, and I needed it badly.
In a similar way, many people experience a “thirst” in their souls and try various things to quench it. Yet, if it isn’t Jesus, that thirst will never truly be satisfied. With Christ as our anchor, we can navigate life’s challenges with resilience and strength.
