Happy Happy Birthday

I wrote this song for a great friend, because I was tired of the same ol’ “Happy Birthday” song we always sing. She is so pretty when she smiles and I love to see her happy! 🙂

Despite how we often perceive ourselves—limited by our insecurities, mistakes, and shortcomings—God sees us through a lens of grace and boundless love. He holds us in much higher regard than we could ever imagine. Even when we stumble or fall short, His mercies are renewed every morning, lavished upon us without condition or hesitation. God doesn’t just forgive us for what we’ve done; He extends mercy in advance, knowing full well our human frailties.

His love transcends understanding, an unfathomable force that reaches into the very core of our being. It is a love so vast, so unwavering, that it is not confined by our imperfections. Truly, it is beyond comprehension—immeasurable, eternal, and all-encompassing.

The Long Road

There’s a stretch of highway between Athens and Palestine, Texas, where I’ve often wondered: where exactly does the road shift from “city” to “country”? It’s not something you can point to on a map, but there’s a distinct change in the air. Attitudes become warmer, patience grows, and respect seems more ingrained. It’s subtle, but you can feel it.

I still haven’t figured out the precise spot where that transformation happens, but there’s no mistaking the charm of the East Texas attitude. Whether it’s the slower pace or the genuine hospitality, there’s something about this region that feels like home—calm, welcoming, and wonderfully real.

Seven Minutes

I laugh every time I hear this song. I originally wrote the lyrics to be in a very slow mysterious song like Phil Collins would do. Instead, this ended up being what it would sound like if Dolly Parton got ahold of it. LOL

Love’s Summit

This song speaks to the vulnerability and honesty that comes with truly knowing someone in a relationship. It reflects on a moment when one partner wonders how the other could continue loving them after seeing all their faults, quirks, and imperfections. But as the singer reflects deeper, they realize that their partner, too, has their own set of idiosyncrasies. Ultimately, it’s not perfection but the depth of their love—genuine and unconditional—that keeps them together, allowing them to embrace each other fully despite their differences.
